We are pleased to offer this beautiful modern reproduction of an antique British nautical clock in a handsome brass-inlaid hardwood box. In order to determine the location of a ship out on the high sea using celestial navigation, an accurate timepiece is mandatory. Prior to the development of extremely accurate chronometers, only the latitude could be calculated. Now, with precise clocks, the longitude of the ship can also be found, but an error of just one second of time is equal to a 1/4 nautical mile error at the equator.
The Stanley London Solid Brass Boxed Clock with Quartz Movement features an accurate quartz clock that runs off a single common AA battery. The solid brass clock has a 4 1/4 inch (10.8 cm) diameter and is fully gimbaled with a solid brass gimbal set. The gimbal arrangement permits the clock to remain level even while the ship heels. The face of the clock is 3 inches (7.6 cm) in diameter, and the hardwood case measures 6 1/4 inches (15.9 cm) square and 4 3/8 inches (11 cm) tall. The boxed clock weighs a rather heavy 3.4 pounds (1.6 kg) and is a beautiful addition to a nautical collection or executive's desk.
The front of the hardwood case has a brass slide clasp and the solid brass inlaid splines function to strengthen the box's corners. We offer custom brass plaques for the front or top and/or the inside of the lid. Sorry, the inlaid brass diamond cannot be engraved.

Mounted in a beautiful solid wood mahogany finish box is this Weems and Plath^® modern quartz clock, featuring a high quality German movement and gimbal. A heavy cast brass housing with a quality beveled glass crystal seals the clock's movement. There is a locking arm in this unique precision gimbal set that is able to lock both the clock and gimbal ring to the case. The four brass gimbal screws are fully adjustable. To eliminate tarnishing and the need for polishing, all polished brass surfaces are clear coated. Weems and Plath's lifetime limited warranty backs this handsome gimbaled clock.
A single N-size battery is required for the German quartz clock. The solid brass clock is 3 1/4 inch (8.3 cm) in diameter and has a 2 3/8 inch (6.0 cm) diameter face. A brass push-to-release clasp is featured on the case's front latch and the case measures 5 3/4 inches (14.6 cm) square and 3 7/8 inches (9.8 cm) tall. The boxed clock weighs 3 pounds (1.4 kg) and is an elegantly constructed timepiece that will be treasured for many generations.
