Full Description:
The aluminum military map compass and pocket transit is both accurate and rugged, and comes packed with features.  This is the same compass shown in the Vietnamese Command Center in the movie "We Were Soldiers" starring Mel Gibson.  It features a quality magnetically-damped jeweled compass with a needle-lift mechanism.  Closing the case lifts the compass needle to protect the jeweled bearing.  An azimuth ring can be set to local magnetic declination (the difference between true north and magnetic north in your location).  For easy nighttime viewing, six luminous dots glow on compass needle, bezel, and cardinal points of the compass rose.  The compass body is cast aluminum and it measures 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) square, 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick, and weighs 4.8 ounces (184 grams).  The compass comes with a leatherette case with belt loop for carrying the compass.

The compass also features a gravity clinometer for measuring vertical angles which can be read while you are sighting via the polished stainless steel mirror.  There are 1:50,000 and 1:100,000 map scales, and there is a small wheel which drives a jeweled map distance meter.  Each side has eight scales to read distance and speed.  The mileage scales are 1:50,000 and 1:100,00.  The front and back scales measure rate and time.  The scales in the front scale are 13 kms/hr, 15 kms/hr, 17 kms/hr, 19 kms/hr, 21 kms/hr, 23 kms/hr, and 25 kms/hr.  The rear scales are 10 kms/hr, 14 kms/hr, 16 kms/hr, 18 kms/hr, 20 kms/hr, 22 kms/hr, 24 kms/hr, and 30 kms/hr. Every time unit is five minutes.
