This is a heavy solid brass air-damped reproduction of a Mark III handheld British Prismatic Military Pocket Compass.
The compass has a beautiful polished brass finish and its operation is similar to that of a
lensatic compass, but the prismatic sight offers a more easily readable and unambiguous
reading.
When the lid is opened the front prismatic sight can be folded over the compass to function as the front sight.
Simultaneous viewing of the compass card and the sighted object is achieved by the magnifier located in the prism.
To focus the compass card the height of the front prismatic sight can be adjusted.
The lid has a scribed line in a glass window to serve as the rear sight, and an exterior guard protects this glass.
A brass bezel is marked off in 10-degree increments and can be rotated.
The bezel has detents so you can change the heading reference a known amount without looking at the compass.
Also, the amount of tension on the detent mechanism can be changed by a side adjustment.
For a quick determination of general direction the outside diameter of the compass case is engraved with a compass rose.
The back of the British Prismatic Military Pocket Compass has raised concentric rings with a flat center area and can be
custom engraved with up to 7 words.
The compass measures 2 3/8 inches (6.0 cm) in diameter, 1 1/4 inches (3.2 cm) thick, and weighs a very solid 9.8 ounces
(278 grams).
This compass is fully functional but is not certified accurate.
The British Prismatic Pocket Compass is offered at only $58.50.
A leather case is an option for an additional $15.
