Hand inlaying hardwood is an old time-honored art that requires considerable talent, patience, and precision from a highly trained artisan to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind piece. The inlayer must chisel out the surface of the wood in the shape of the design that will be inlaid, and then hand cut each individual piece of thin wood and precisely fit it into the hollowed out section.
This solid hardwood box features an inlaid compass rose made from four different species of beautiful exotic hardwoods. As each compass rose is inlaid into the hardwood box using similar hand tools to those used 200 years ago, each compass is unique and will have slight variations. If you have ever priced rosewood, you know that it is so expensive as to be sold by the inch rather than by the foot.
The Rosewood Desk Compass with Hand Inlaid Hardwood Compass Rose is 3 inches (7.6 cm) square, 1 1/4 inches (3.2 cm) tall, and weighs 5.9 ounces (168 grams). Its hinged lid opens to reveal a 2 1/8 inch (5.4 cm) diameter beautiful polished solid brass compass. This compass can be ordered with a custom solid brass plaque to be mounted on the inside lid of the box. The plaque can be engraved with a maximum of 10 lines, 6 words per line.

This beautiful antique reproduction of a round compass is crafted from solid rosewood and features a hand inlaid compass rose. The lid opens to reveal a solid brass air damped 2.8 inch (54 mm) diameter brass compass. The Round Rosewood Compass with Inlaid Compass Rose is 3 inches (75 mm) in diameter, 13/8 inches ( 35 mm) tall, and weighs 5.4 ounces (153 grams).
