The Stanley London® Prismatic Stand Compass is a reproduction of an antique Prismatic compass on a stand.
The prism allows for the simultaneous viewing of the object being sighted and its magnetic heading.
The compass is exposed when the hinged brass lid is flipped up.
The hinged prism can be rotated up for use as a front sight, or to view the compass heading without averting the user's
gaze.
Reverse mirror image printing on the compass rose reads properly when viewed though the prism with half-degree resolution.
When making a heading measurement, the magnetic heading appears under the object being sighted.
The prism height can be varied and precisely set by using the adjustmet screws.
The compass has a needle lift mechanism that is operated with a thumbscrew on the bottom of the compass, to protect the
compass jewel when being transported.
For eaisier reading, a small button in the rear of the compass activates a needle freeze mechanism to hold the compass
heading.
By unscrewing the compass base, standard 1/4-20 threads are exposed to allow the mounting of the compass onto a tripod.
The compass lid is 2.8 inches (7.1 cm) in diameter, stands 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm) tall, and weighs 12 1/2 ounces (354 grams).
This compass is beautifully crafted from solid brass, and polished to a mirror-like shine.
The built-in stand makes this Prismatic Compass a perfect desk accessory.
The Large Prismatic Stand Compass is offered at only $49.
