In order to determine whether the atmospheric pressure is rising or falling, an adjustable brass reference pointer can be set to a prior barometric reading. Improving weather conditions are noted through rising barometric pressure, while falling barometric pressure indicates a worsening climate. In addition to the Dalvey barometer predicting the weather, it also functions as an altimeter, measuring your height above sea level. The barometer comes factory calibrated and has an adjustment screw on the back of the instrument.
