We are pleased to offer this Stanley London® Five-inch (13 cm) Brass Rack and Pinion Sextant.
It features an adjustment knob that drives a pinion gear against machined teeth on the limb of the sextant
to allow fine adjustment of the inclination angle.
Both mirrors are fully adjustable and there are six swing-arm filters.
Reading the German Silver vernier scale is eased by the use of a built-in magnifier that can be swung into position.
"Stanley London 1878" is engraved on the index arm of the sextant.
A large solid hardwood handle is located on the back of the sextant.
The sextant is 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm) tall, 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide,
4 inches (10.2 cm) deep and weighs over 2 pounds (919 grams).
The handsome felt lined hardwood case weigh 1 pound 3 ounces (825 grams).
Included with the sextant is a solid hardwood case with "Stanley London" engraved on a solid brass plaque.
The case also has two front clasps and beautiful inlaid hardwood splines that serve to strengthen the corner joints.
This hardwood case can be fitted with a custom brass plaque either on the outside of the case in place of
the Stanley London plaque, on the front, or on the inside lid.
Please note that even though these models are fully functional, they are not calibrated nor intended for navigation.
However, they are perfect for the collector or anyone interested in learning celestial navigation.
The 5-inch rack and pinion brass sextant with hardwood case is offered for only $189.
