This is a beautiful full-scale reproduction of the British 6-inch radius vernier readout brass nautical sextant.  Each Stanley London® 6-inch radius Antique Finish Brass Sextant is expertly crafted from solid brass and an antique patina is applied so it looks like a 115-year old antique.  The antique patina finish is very advantageous if you plan on handling the sextant often, since this antique finish does not show fingerprints or even need polishing.  The frame of each sextant is marked with a unique serial number.  The sextant features an accurately divided German Silver scale, and a gear driven slow motion control for making small adjustments to the index arm.  Reading the vernier scale is eased by the utilization of a powerful magnifier that can be readily swung into position.  The sextant's telescope produces a clear magnified non-inverted (upright) image through its polished glass lenses.  There are six dark tinted swing-arm filters with heavy brass filter mounts.  On the back of the sextant is a comfortable brass handle.
A beautiful felt-lined solid hardwood case with a solid brass plaque engraved "Stanley London" is included with the purchase of this sextant.  The case has two front clasps and a brass handle, and the corner joints have beautiful inlaid hardwood splines to provide extra strength and support.  This hardwood case can be fitted with a custom brass plaque either on the outside of the case instead of the Stanley London plaque, on the front, or on the inside lid.
Note that the six-inch sextant is not a miniature sextant.  The six-inch radius is a very common size in modern brass sextants.  The sextant measures
7 5/8 inches (19.4 cm) tall, 8 3/8 inches (21.3 cm) wide, and 3 3/8 inches (8.6 cm) deep.  The sextant weighs 2 pounds, 6 ounces (1.08 kg), the felt lined hardwood case weighs an additional 2 pounds, 8 ounces (1.14 kg).  This sextant does not come with a certificate of calibration and is not intended for navigation, even though it is fully functional.
The 6-inch antique patina brass sextant with hardwood case is offered at only $185.
We also offer a premium grade 6-inch radius sextant with leather case, a and premium grade 6.5-inch radius Polished Captain's Sextant with hardwood case.
