The compass card is mounted perpendicular to the needle and the entire card rotates to allow stable and accurate readings.
There is a needle lift thumbscrew to secure the compass needle while in transport.
The brass sundial compass is 3 3/16 inches (8 cm) in diameter, 1 5/8 inches (4 cm) tall, and weighs just 9 ounces (256 grams).

compass.
The sundial is capable of being oriented North by using the magnetic compass.
The top of the sundial is hinged and a curved scale is used to set your local latitude angle.
Local time can be determined by looking at the shadow of the sun cast by the sundial's vane.
A needle lift mechanism protects the jeweled bearing of the compass during transport.
For compact storage, the top of the sundial can lay down flat, and both the latitude scale and the sundial vane
are hinged to lay flat.
The sundial measures a maximum of 2 7/8 inches (7.0 cm) tall, 7/8 inches (2.3 cm) tall when collapsed,
