This Stanley London® sundial is an antique reproduction of a universal equinoctial sundial with leveling pendulums and internal magnetic compass.
The Universal Equinoctial Sundial is an extremely accurate sundial developed in the mid to late 1600's.
The compass allows fast alignment of azimuth to North and features a needle lift mechanism to protect the jeweled bearing when being transported.
The sundial can be adjusted to your local latitude.
This sundial features three leveling screws that can be adjusted to ensure that the sundial frame is level.
The sun's shadow cast by the sundial's gnomon onto the linear 15 degree per hour scale equatorial band marks the local time.
The three parameters that affect the accuracy of a sundial are the azimuth, latitude of the instrument, and level.
The unique design of the Universal Equinoctial Sundial provides precise adjustment of all three parameters.
This beautiful instrument is made of highly polished solid brass and the hours and months are identified by black Arabic numerals.
The body of the sundial is 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm) wide, 7 inches (17.8 cm) high and 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) deep and the sundial weighs 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram).
The Universal Equinoctial Sundial sells for $149.
We also offer a Celestial Armillary Globe, three Demonstrational Armillary Spheres, and four Astrolabes.
