Full Description:
These Stanley London® Prismatic Stand Compasses are reproductions of an antique Prismatic compass mounted on a stand. These prismatic stand compasses are beautifully crafted from solid brass and polished to a mirror-like shine. On each compass a prism allows you to simultaneously view the object being sighted and its magnetic heading. The prism is also hinged and can be rotated up for use as a front sight and to view the compass heading without averting the user's gaze. Reverse mirror image printing on the compass rose reads properly when viewed though the prism. When making a heading measurement, the magnetic heading appears under the object being sighted. Each compass has a needle lift mechanism that is operated with a thumbscrew or a push button on the bottom of the compass to protect the compass jewel when being transported. The base of each compass unscrews to expose standard 1/4-20 threads to allow mounting the compass on a surveyor's tripod. The built-in stand makes them a perfect desk accessory.
The Stanley London® Small Prismatic Stand Compass lid is 2 1/16 inches (5.2 cm) in diameter, stands 2 1/2 inches (6.4 cm) tall, and weighs 7 1/2 ounces (215 grams). The hinged brass lid has a replaceable sighting thread, which flips up to expose the compass. Adjustment screws allow the height of the prism to be precisely set. The compass has a needle lift mechanism that is operated with a thumbscrew on the bottom of the compass to protect the compass jewel when being transported. The brass compass card reads "T. Cooke London."
The Stanley London® Regular Prismatic Stand Compass lid is 2 13/16 inches (7.1 cm) in diameter, stands 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm) tall, and weighs 12 1/2 ounces (354 grams). The hinged brass lid flips up to expose the compass. Adjustment screws allow the height of the prism to be precisely set. A small button in the rear of the compass activates a needle freeze mechanism to hold a compass heading for easier reading.
The Stanley London® Large Prismatic Compass measures 4 3/8 inches (11.1 cm) in diameter, 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) thick, the compass and stand are 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm) tall, and weighs one pound, 14 ounces (859 grams). The large brass lid is stamped "Stanley London," and comes off to expose the aluminum compass dial. A unique feature of this Prismatic Compass is that there are two colored filters that can be placed in the optical path of the measurement to reduce glare. There is a small cover that can be swung into place to protect the prism. Two adjustment screws allow the height of the prism to be precisely set for proper focus. Pressing a small plunger button near the rear sight locks the compass card for easier reading. The rear sight has a replaceable thread and a hinged mirror that can also be raised or lowered. Your personalized inscription can be engraved on the top of this compass.
